Health insurance for language students: international student attending a German course

Arrive well prepared

Why do language students need health insurance?

Suitable health insurance cover is important when attending a language course in Germany. Whether you need proof of insurance for your visa or residence permit, and what form it must take, depends on factors such as the duration of your stay and the responsible German mission abroad. Your cover should begin on time and remain valid for the planned duration of your stay.

Care College from Care Concept and MAWISTA Student both explicitly include language students among the eligible groups. Each provider offers plans with different benefits. If you later enrol at a university, your insurance requirements may need to be reviewed again.

Before purchasing a policy: Ask the responsible German mission abroad or immigration authority which certificate is accepted for your specific purpose of stay. The authority decides whether proof of insurance is accepted in each individual case.
